Types of Services

Sunday Morning Services

Many opportunities are provided for worship at Shallowford: Sundays at 8:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., various retreats, and multiple special services throughout the year.  Every week we gather to pray, hear God’s word and be empowered to go out into the world and serve.

First Worship

First Worship begins at 8:45 a.m. This service, held in the Chapel, is the more intimate and informal of our Sunday worship services. The service includes prayer, scripture and a message from the pastor. On the second Sunday of every month, the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper (communion) is observed during First Worship. All Christians are welcome to participate in communion.

First Worship is followed by church school at 9:30 a.m. The period between church school and 11:00 a.m. worship is a time for fellowship, when everyone can greet old friends--and make new ones!

Service for the Lord’s Day

Service for the Lord’s Day begins at 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary. This service includes prayers, Scripture readings and a sermon, as well as choral and instrumental music. The Chancel Choir (the church's adult choir) sings in 11:00 a.m. worship every Sunday from August through May (with a few exceptions, such as when the youth choir takes over on Youth Sunday). Shallowford's other choirs, including the high school Chapel Choir, several children's choirs, and a hand bell choir, also regularly take turns offering worship music during the 11:00 a.m. service. We observe the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper on the second Sunday every other month during the 11:00 a.m. worship service. All Christians are welcome to participate in communion.

Children in Worship

Children are always welcome at Shallowford. We encourage children to participate in worship with their families. Childcare for infants through 2 years is available on the second floor of the Education Building. A comfort room is available in the rear of the sanctuary so parents can attend to the needs of the child while worshiping. A clipboard ministry, located to the right of the door in the narthex, provides paper, crayons, Bibles and other learning materials for the children. Following the pastor’s Time with Children at the 11:00 a.m. service, children ages 3-5 join Mrs. Couch, Children’s Choir Director, for music making in Cherub Choir. Every fall, 1st graders participate in Worship Preparation during the Church School hour, learning about the parts of the worship service to help them become full participants.

Handicapped Parking

Handicapped parking is available in the upper parking lot with ramps and elevators in the building to help make navigation easier. Personal devices for the hearing impaired are available from an usher. A minister and an elder will provide communion to a homebound person on request.
