Youth Mission Statement
Youth ministry at Shallowford Presbyterian Church provides a Christian community for 7th through 12th graders as they attempt to grow together toward their full potential in Christ through worship, discipleship, service, study, and fellowship. This Christian community seeks to guide our young people in developing and deepening a faithful relationship with God through Jesus Christ, while encouraging them to rely on the Holy Spirit to guide them in their daily lives.

Hear the words of the Apostle Paul written to Timothy:
“And don’t let anyone put you down because you are young. Teach believers with your life: by word, by demeanor, by love, by faith, by integrity…Don’t be diverted. Just keep at it. Both you and those who hear you will experience salvation.”
-1 Timothy 4:12-16, The Message
Wednesday Bible Study
Each Wednesday night from 5:30-6:30 the youth engage in smaller group Bible study. Pizza and drinks are provided for $4.
Sunday Fellowship (September-May)
Sunday Fellowship is a time for us to play. Typically, youth fellowship is on Sunday evenings from 6-8 p.m. and includes dinner for just $4. Following dinner, there will be a youth program that can be anything from games/icebreakers to service projects to small group discussions. On occasion, we will either meet earlier in the afternoon or extend our time together for special events that take us away from the church. Watch your calendars and emails for more details.
Summer Fellowship (June-August)
Summer Fellowship is a time for us to learn and to work together at Montreat, on our mission trip and during special monthly activities. Check the newsletter and calendar for specific activities, dates and times
Sunday School
Every Sunday morning we have two youth Sunday school classes from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
7th-8th Grade — Middle School Room #310
9th-12th Grade — Youth Lounge
Confirmation Class
Confirmation Class for 8th Grade runs from January through April. This is a chance for confirmands to explore their faith and ultimately decide whether this is the time they want to make a commitment to Jesus Christ and to become members of the church.
Youth Sunday
Twice annually the youth of Shallowford have the opportunity to organize, plan, and lead worship on Sunday morning. Organized around a central theme, the youth work together to plan the order of worship as well as to write all of the prayers and liturgy. Seniors and older youth have the opportunity to choose scriptures and prepare meditations.
Mission Trip
Last year 27 youth and adults participated in Shallowford’s second youth mission trip traveling to Newport, TN to work with many of the local ministries in the Smoky Mountains. We worked to paint and repair houses, visited with the elderly, ran a day camp for local kids, and helped to cleanup community parks. This year we are planning another trip for 24 youth and adults the week of June 20-27 to do similar work in Martin, South Dakota. Here we will work alongside the Pine Ridge and Rosebud Sioux Indian reservations as we help to alleviate struggles with poverty and tense relationships between ethnic groups. This summer our group will shine the light of Christ in this community through home improvement projects, and by serving the local children and elderly.
Montreat
An annual favorite of youth at Shallowford is our trip to the Montreat Youth Conference where our youth have the opportunity to join together with other young people from all over the country for a week of study, worship, and recreation. A typical day includes morning energizers, keynote speakers, music, small group discussions, recreation and worship. This trip is available to all high school students, entering freshmen through graduated seniors.
Volunteers
The Youth department at Shallowford is always looking for help. We can always use drivers, chaperones, cooks, and people to help plan and organize fundraisers, special events, etc. Whether or not you have youth we would love to have you. Contact Jay if you are interested in working with our youth.
