After nine wonderful years as Shallowford’s organist, Dr. Wooyoung Kwon, will be leaving her position on Sunday, January 9, 2022. Wooyoung Kwon has been such a gift to our congregation. We will miss her attention to detail, supreme musicianship, and enthusiasm for learning new repertoire. We wish her well as she spends this time getting rest and spending time with family.

Emily Floyd, Director of Music Ministries and WooYoung’s supervisor, shares the impact WooYoung has had while at Shallowford:

“Her music from the piano and organ has blessed us over and over again. From familiar hymns to rousing compositions to expertly played choral accompaniments, we have loved hearing her play. She is at her best when supporting student musicians who are having their first experiences playing an instrument or singing solos at Shallowford. When professional instrumentalists work with her for the first time, they are always eager to return to Shallowford to play again!”

A Message from WooYoung Kwon

“I have been grateful to share the journey of faith with you, and you have blessed my family and me in many ways since 2013. It was not an easy decision to make, but after serving 30 years as a pianist & organist at churches, I think it is the right time to take a break. I will pray and wait for my next call while I enjoy spending time with family and growing spiritually and musically.Thank you again for sharing God’s love with my family and me.”

The tradition of music at Shallowford will continue to be a priority as we work out an interim arrangement and a long-term staffing plan. If you have any questions, please contact Emily Floyd.
