Jim McGarrah joined Shallowford as the Director of Operations in early 2017. In this capacity, he seeks to enable the effective programs of the church by striving for excellence in the operational support functions of finance, facilities, communications, information technology support and human resources.
Jim grew up in a Navy family and lived in several places across the country. He graduated “With Distinction” from the U. S. Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and received his Navy commission in 1973. He served in both the active and reserve components of the U. S. Navy for 33 years. He also served over 24 years in the telecommunications industry working for Southern Bell, BellSouth and Cingular Wireless, primarily in operational and planning assignments with the network department, and over 8 years as a Laboratory Director and Chief of Staff of the Georgia Tech Research Institute. Jim holds a Master of Arts degree in Human Resource Management from Pepperdine University, a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, and is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Georgia. He is a member of several civic and professional organizations and serves on the Board of the Seabee Memorial Scholarship Association. He is grateful for the opportunity to leverage his experience in service to Shallowford.
