Jr. High Retreat
A weekend that brings together high adventure and worship as we discover the outdoors, strengthen friendships, and strengthen foundations in Christ. Sixth through eighth graders go to White Water Express in Ducktown, TN. Activities included horseback riding, paintball, and mountain biking as well as horseshoes, hayrides, disc golf, low ropes, and campfires.
Sr. High Winter Retreat
Students in grades 9-12 joined us this year on our Senior High Retreat to Glisson Camp and Retreat Center! We had opportunities to hike together, conquer our ropes course fears, and sit fireside with marshmallows. We stayed in cabins and had fellowship time together on Friday and Saturday evening where we reflected on the ways God is working in our individual lives.
Youth Mission Trip
In the summer of 2017, we are going on a mission trip in the remote desert of New Mexico as we build relationships with and serve alongside our Native American brothers and sisters. This mission trip will be a complete immersion experience as we fly to New Mexico, stay on the reservation, face outdoor showers and outhouses, leave our cell phones behind, work together on construction projects with the community, create and lead a culturally-sensitive Kids Club, and reflect on our faith in the midst of a barren desert. This type of immersion experience is a unique opportunity for our youth to grow spiritually and emotionally. It allows us to take a step back and evaluate ourselves, our lives, and our faith. We hope that you will consider joining us this year!
Montreat Youth Conference
An annual favorite of youth at Shallowford is our trip to the Montreat Youth Conference where our youth have the opportunity to join together with other young people from all over the country for a week of study, worship, and recreation. A typical day includes morning energizers, keynote speakers, music, small group discussion, recreation, and worship.
The conferences for youth at Montreat Conference Center model true Christian commitment and community. Our young people who attend are both challenged and comforted. They leave empowered, encouraged, and encircled by new friends. Likewise, the leaders who attend with them begin to see their connectedness with the greater church and the vast community of Christ. They take home the tools they need to expand the Montreat experience into the everyday lives of their young people. This trip is available to all high school students, entering high school freshmen through graduated high school seniors.
