After five cold winters in Milwaukee, Sorrell and her husband Steve moved south and bought a home in Tucker, Georgia. Getting settled meant finding the right church home for their growing family including Lawson, a one-year-old, and a baby on the way.

“Years ago, our marriage counselor gave us an important seed of advice,” said Sorrell. “He said worship where you live.”

They focused their search and visited Shallowford on what happened to be Youth Sunday.  Young kids had planned and conducted worship, read scripture, offered prayers, and shared personal messages.

“Seeing that the Shallowford church family raised kids that spoke easily and clearly about their faith and values — how could we go anywhere else?” said Sorrell. “I told Steve this is where I want to raise our family.” They joined Shallowford and Lawson, now age 8, recently read the scripture during a morning worship service.

“I’m so happy we’re here,” said Sorrell, “Shallowford is very welcoming and people helped us engage. We’re in a monthly group with other parents with kids our kids’ ages. We learn from and with each other. It fills me up to be here.”
